The best design is based on ideas that are appropriate to the subject, presented in a clear manner, without embellishment. Successful communication establishes a visual language and then states it in a simple, direct and elegant fashion. Design for design’s sake—in what is often a viewer’s first impression—doesn’t help solve unique communication problems. What does is listening.
